Pain in Sexual Intercourse
It is not normal to have pain during sexual intercourse. However, most women in our society do not express sexuality even if it is painful because they see it as a duty. It should be remembered that this pain has a cause and when it is treated, relationships will be painless.
What causes pain during sexual intercourse?
The condition of having pain during sexual intercourse is called 'dyspareunia'. Pain may be felt in the groin or vagina. Often in the form of burning and stinging in the vagina; pain is felt in the groin.
It can have many psychological or physical causes. The most common causes of dyspareunia are:
- Genital infections
- Structural differences in the hymen
- Vaginal changes and dryness during menopause
- Vulvar vestibulitis syndrome
- Vaginal changes after childbirth or after vaginal surgeries
- Irritation of the vagina after insufficient foreplay
- Vaginismus
- Loss of sexual desire
- Some skin diseases (the most common cause is Lichen Sclerosis)
- Ovarian cysts, infections in the uterus or tubes
